In the book "Slam!" there is a boy named Greg Harris who is 17 and plays basketball at his high school. He has the skill and heart to make to NBA but there is a problem, his grades aren't the greatest because he also is on the art club at his school so he doesn't have time to do his work. One day Greg gets called down to the principles office and his mother is in the office with another man that Greg has never seen before. The principle introduces Richie Randell who is a graduate of Howard University and a working engineer to be Greg's math tutor. Greg doesn't like the idea of a math tutor but his mom thinks it's a good idea to get help and to improve his grade.
Question: Do you think it should be mandatory for student athletes to attend homework club (after school study class) because they miss class for sports/games?

I feel that it shouldn't be mandatory for student athletes to attend homework clubs to make up for the classes they missed because we are going out and representing the school. It is also the students responsibility to get the work that he misses because they know when they are going to be away.
ReplyDeleteI have personally missed lot of school due to sports and other school activities. I don't believe it should be mandatory to attend homework clubs. Although I do believe there should be access to homework clubs every night for athletes, depending on schedule's, to attend and they can chose to go as they please.

ReplyDeletei think it should be mandatory if the player is failing a class, if the player has at the least a 60% and up then it should not be a mandatory thing.
ReplyDeleteI do not feel that it should be mandatory for athletes to attend homework club after school, just because they are falling behind. It is their responsibility, and if they feel they will not be able to do their homework and keep up with school, then they should not be playing the sport. However I think homework club could be available every night, for people who are dedicated to their sports and work, and want to accomplish in life.
